Camp Out at Rockport Reservoir

The snake that was hanging out at our campsite. Good thing it was just a garden snake...(en haveslange hi hi hi :D)

The kids by the fire.
The kids roasting hotdogs on the fire.
Eating yummy s'mores.
Mmmm!! I want a s'more now.
The next day we rented a boat and went out on the reservoir to try to catch some fish.
The kids were terrified of getting in the boat and we couldn't go to fast. But eventually they calmed down and enjoyed it.
My handsome fisherman.
It was a bit chilly and a little rainy at first so we bundled up.
Ben teaching Ty how to put the bait on the hook.
My two handsome fishermen.
YAY!!! Ben caught a rainbow trout. He released it again because he didn't want to clean it and stuff. Later we found out that the people at the boat rental place would have done it for us and then we were kicking ourselves.

Laney the fisher-woman.After we returned the boat we walked on the beach and found a spot where Ben tried to catch some fish. He didn't catch any.....

...but the kids had fun throwing rocks in the water. As we left the reservoir we saw two pelicans hanging out in the water.

Ben the Snake Wrangler

I forgot about all these pictures I have from when we went camping the weekend before Memorial Day. When we got to our little campground the first thing we saw was this snake...Ty had just woken up from a nap in the car and was cold and tired....hence the whining. :D Anyway, I'll have to post the pictures later but here's the video of Ben and the snake.

By the way, this is not the first time Ben has wrangled a snake. A couple of years ago when Ben worked at a Pharmacy in Murray he opened up a box that was in the store and inside was a little snake. Since Ben is such an expert with chopstick (and often feels more comfortable using them when he's cooking....lol) he grabbed two pens and got the snake out of the box and put it outside......and that is why he's known in our family as the snake wrangler. :D

My Babies.....sniff sniff

I knew the day was coming and I thought I was excited about it. But now that it's here, it's a different story.
My little tiny babies are now going to preschool and Kindergarten. Ty started preschool last Monday and was not excited when he got there. But after a couple of days he is now getting really good at going and looks like he's having a lot of fun there. The first time Laney and I had to leave him there and he was crying, I think we all wanted to sit down and cry. He is so cute though, coming out with his HUGE backpack on. He looks like such a big boy suddenly. And all the new songs he's singing at home now....I love it. What a man!!!

Ty's first day of preschool....what a stud!

And there's Laney. She had her Kindergarten assessment last Monday where her new teacher tests her to see what she knows. Ms Mulder said she's actually ready for 1st grade but we decided to keep her in Kindergarten so she'll be with her peers. What a smarty pants though. She aced her test and we found out later that the teacher even told some of the other parents that there was a really smart girl in the class. She told my friend who was there for her child's assessment and so my friend said, "Yeah Laney, right?!" Anyway, sounds like she will find stuff for Laney to do so she won't be bored. So that's great!

Laney ready for Kindergarten Orientation

Yesterday we then went to Laney's Kindergarten Invitation (good thing, cause Laney had been waiting for that invitation for a while now....).....wait I mean....oreopolation.......no wait......oreototation.......dang it!.....I mean, orientation. I went really well. Laney was so excited about going to school and has been counting down the days. She was just a little annoyed that I had to stay there on the first day....and by the way, why does she only have to be there for 3 hours? And she doesn't have to eat lunch there???? What??? I told her it's because I would miss her too much....They have to ease the mothers into it. :D

First Day of School...gorgeous girl!

But when we got there she did turn in to her shy self and was too shy to even ask somebody is she could get past them. Oh man, what will she do without me there to help her out?! :D The good thing is that her teacher is about the nicest person on the planet so hopefully she will be comfortable enough to talk to the other kids soon. Luckily she knows 2 of the other kids already. She's just uncomfortable talking in front of the other kids, she told me, but hopefully she will feel more comfortable soon and enjoy going to school. Man, it's hard to let them go!!!

Waiting for Ms Mulder to pick them up outside.

Some of the kids in her class. Her friend Aaron came and stood by her.

One More...

Ty's cousin just got home from his mission and we went and saw him at the airport and then drove out to hear him talk in church. While we were driving out to Nevada to hear him talk I was reminding Ty that he was starting preschool the following Monday.

Nadja - "What day is it today?"
Ty - "Saturday"
Nadja - "So tomorrow is...?"
Ty - "Sunday"
Nadja - "And the day after Sunday is....?"
Ty - "Monday"
Nadja - "And where are you going on Monday?"
Ty - "Mission?"

Ty-isms

Ty is at the age where he wants everything at the store and flips out when he doesn't get it. He wanted two toys that both cost $10. We told him to save his money and then he could buy them. When we got home he told me that he was going to rip his $10 bill in half and then he could buy both things.

Ty licks EVERYTHING. Today we were sitting eating lunch when there was a little drip of ranch on the ranch bottle which Ty promptly licked off. I told him:
"Don't lick the bottle. Now your germs are on the bottle and the bottle germs are on your tongue!" And Ty told me, "But I need some more germs. All of mine ran away!"

Random Pictures from my Phone

After the non-family reunion up by Bear Lake we stopped in Garden City to eat some lunch and some yummy yummy raspberry shakes...yum (I want one right now.... :D)
Laney and some of the other kids she does Tumbling with.
In Germany they have these AWESOME little carts for kids....I wish they had them here. Maybe the kids would stop climbing on the big carts!!
When we picked Ben up at the airport...we gave him about 5 seconds to re-pack and then we were off to Paris!!! :D
One of the grocery stores in Germany had these cool little compartments in the cart....Ty's little booty was a perfect fit.
We went to the park with my friend from England and they had these spiny things. Ty just wanted to sit in them and have me spin him around. He would close his eyes and I thought he was going to fall asleep. It was pretty funny.
We went to Wheeler Farm and caterpillars kept falling from the trees on me. One of the ones I flicked off Ty picked up and he seriously carried it around forever, just letting crawl up and down his arms.
We went to the Zoo a month or so ago and we couldn't pull Ty away from the sloth. He just stood and watched it for about 10-15 minutes.

Swimming Lessons

Laney did swimming lessons last summer and it was a battle to keep her in the water at first and not freak out. We went swimming a couple of times last summer and she was just terrified of the water and would rather sit on the steps or on the edge. But by the end of last summer she was getting a lot better and actually enjoying herself. So she was quite excited for swimming lessons this year....and so was Ty. It was hard trying to keep him out of the water last year when Laney was swimming and he did fall in on the last day.
This year I couldn't keep Laney above the water long enough to actually tell her something. She was constantly going under the water.
Here she is with one of her teachers doing "big arms".

My little fish. When we went with the kids to the swimming pool she actually practiced kicking off the wall and swimming under the water over to us. She did so good. I was very impressed. She also would go under the water in the deep end and try to reach the bottom...which she did once or twice.
Then there was Ty. Ty has always loved the water and like I said last year he fell in the water during Laney's swimming lessons because he was playing by the water. THIS YEAR, he was so excited to go to swimming lessons and was happy until we go to the pool....and then I couldn't get him even go in the water. He said it was because it was a man who was his teacher....he's never had a problem with that before...but even the next day when it was a girl he freaked out.
So out of 8 classes he was in the water 1 time...and the whole time he was whining and kind of crying. So we'll try again next year. He IS really good at floating on his back though. :D
